Dictation Quality or Transcription Issues

Sometimes dictation quality may drop or transcription may fail. This usually comes from a microphone issue or a Wi-Fi issue.

Check Your Microphone

The most common reason is that your Mac has selected the wrong microphone.

  • We recommend using your built-in Mac microphone. It is high quality and works well with Willow.

  • AirPods and AirPods Pro microphones are lower quality. They may turn on without you noticing, especially when switching Bluetooth devices.

  • If this happens, go to your Mac audio settings and make sure the correct microphone is selected.

  • If you are using an external microphone, make sure it is high quality. Low-quality microphones will not pick up your words correctly.

You can select a different microphone in Willow while still using a different sound output. For example, you can use your built-in microphone for input and still use your AirPods for sound output. This will not affect dictation.

Check Your Wi-Fi

Willow requires Wi-Fi to work. Make sure your Wi-Fi is turned on and connected before starting dictation.
